In Germany you can drive a motorboat on inland waterways without a license if its engine is no more than 15 horsepower (11.03 kW), and the skipper must be at least 16. That covers most rental motorboats, rafts and electric boats in Berlin; anything more powerful needs the Sportbootführerschein. Unpowered craft such as kayaks, canoes and pedal boats need no license at all. The rental season follows the weather, roughly spring to autumn, and summer weekends book out, so reserve ahead if your dates are fixed.
