- Spielplatz im Krausnickpark - Piraten Spielplatz Mitte — A pirate-ship playground inside a small, enclosed green courtyard just off Oranienburger Straße. Walled in, leafy and easy to keep an eye on, which makes it one of the calmer options in the middle of Mitte. (52.5244, 13.3967)
- Spielplatz am Wasserturm — On the hill around the old water tower in Prenzlauer Berg, under mature trees. Good in summer for exactly that reason, and the slope gives older children somewhere to run. (52.5338, 13.4189)
- Plansche in Plänterwald — One of the city's Planschen, the shallow public paddling pools. Worth the trip on a hot day with small children; pointless on a cool one, when the water is often switched off. (52.4810, 13.4886)
- Spielplatz Gleisdreieck — In the Park am Gleisdreieck, built on old railway land. Wide, open and full of space to roam, but the trees are still young, so bring hats and sun cream rather than counting on shade. (52.4985, 13.3701)
- Abenteuer- und Bauspielplatz Kuhfuß — A Bauspielplatz, where children build huts and dens from wood with real tools under staff supervision. It keeps set opening hours rather than being open all day, so check before you go. (52.4884, 13.4498)

Berlin's water playgrounds run on the weather, not the calendar
Berlin's Planschen, the shallow public paddling pools in parks, are run by the individual districts and generally free. They open for the warm months only, and even then they depend on the day: in a cool or wet spell the water may be off, and it is not unusual to arrive and find a dry basin. If water is the whole point of the outing, check the district's page that morning. Many ordinary playgrounds also have a hand pump and a sand channel (Wasserspielplatz or Matschanlage), which work all summer and are the better bet on a mild day.
