- Roma Termini Station — The main hub, where both metro lines A and B meet and almost every long-distance and regional train starts or stops. Big, busy and signposted in English. Arrive twenty minutes early because platform numbers go up on the board late and the far platforms are a real walk. (41.9043, 12.4853)
- Roma Tiburtina Stazione — Rome's second high-speed station, on the east side, on metro line B. Many north-south fast trains stop here as well as at Termini, and it is where a lot of long-distance coaches leave from. Often quicker to reach if you are staying in San Lorenzo or Pigneto. - Stazione di Roma Ostiense — South of the center, joined underground to Piramide on metro line B. Airport trains on the FL1 regional line stop here, and the old air terminal beside it is now an Eataly, which makes it the only station where killing an hour is a pleasure. (41.8728, 12.4847)
- Stazione Trastevere — The station for the south bank. FL1 trains to Fiumicino airport stop here, so if you are staying in Trastevere or Monteverde you do not need to go anywhere near Termini to fly out. (41.8724, 12.4661)
- Stazione di Roma Porta San Paolo — Terminus of the Roma to Lido line, across the square from Piramide. Take it for the sea at Ostia, and for the ruins of Ostia Antica on the way, on an ordinary city transport ticket rather than a mainline one. (41.8752, 12.4819)
- Roma San Pietro Railway Station — A small station just south of St Peter's, on the FL3 regional line. Useful mainly for regional trips north-west, and handy for the Vatican if you are coming in by train rather than metro. (41.8964, 12.4538)

Two train companies, two ticket systems, one station
Italy has two high-speed operators, Trenitalia (the Frecciarossa and other Frecce) and Italo. They share tracks and stations, both using Termini and Tiburtina, but they are separate companies: a ticket for one is not valid on the other, and each has its own machines and desks. Check which company your booking is with before you run for the train. For slower regional trains, a paper ticket without a set train on it must be stamped in the small validating machine on the platform before you board. Digital tickets from the official apps cover this differently, so follow the instructions on the ticket itself.

How many train stations are there in Rome?

How do I get from Rome to Fiumicino airport by train?
The Leonardo Express runs non-stop between Termini and the airport in about half an hour. The slower FL1 regional line also reaches Fiumicino and stops at Trastevere, Ostiense and Tiburtina.
Can I use an Italo ticket on a Trenitalia train?
No. Italo and Trenitalia are separate companies and their tickets are not interchangeable, even on the same route from the same station.
