Bukchon has visiting hours now, and they are enforced

Bukchon Hanok Village is a lived-in neighbourhood, and since 1 March 2025 the busiest part of it — the red zone around Bukchon-ro 11-gil, where several of the numbered viewpoints are — is closed to tourists from 5 pm to 10 am, with a fine of ₩100,000 for visiting outside those hours. Plan Bukchon for late morning or early afternoon, and save sunset for elsewhere: the Sewoon rooftop downtown is free, open into the evening, and looks over Jongmyo toward N Seoul Tower as the city lights come on.
