How entry works

What Hong Kong checks.

  • Before you go. No general ETA. Indian nationals need the free online Pre-arrival Registration; Taiwan residents use PAR or an entry permit. Mainland residents need an EEP endorsement.
  • Your passport. At least 1 month beyond your planned departure (Indian nationals using PAR: 6 months).
  • Onward ticket. Evidence of onward or return travel required.
  • Money for the stay. Adequate funds for the stay without working.
  • Travel insurance. Not an entry requirement.
  • Also. From 23 Mar 2026, refusing to give police passwords or decryption help in national security cases is a criminal offence; this applies to arriving and transiting travellers, and devices can be seized.
  • Also. A Chinese visa is needed separately to visit or transit mainland China.

Keep your money

How to spot a copycat visa site.

  1. Check the address. Hong Kong’s official link on this page goes to gov.hk. Look-alike sites use similar names and flags.
  2. Compare the fee. If the price is far above the government fee, you’re paying a private service. It should say so plainly.
  3. Ignore “fast-track” upsells. Nobody outside the government can speed up or promise a decision.
