The famous brewery tour is in a building that stopped brewing
The Heineken Experience on the Stadhouderskade is housed in the company's old brewery, which stopped production in 1988; it is a ticketed, self-guided brand attraction, not a working brewery visit. For beer actually brewed in the room where you drink it, a brouwerij with a proeflokaal (tasting room) is what to look for. Several rows in this list are brand offices or kombucha makers rather than taprooms, so check before you cross the city. Dutch speciality beers are often strong; a tripel at eight or nine per cent in a small glass goes further than it looks.
