Wild camping is not allowed anywhere in the Netherlands
Pitching a tent outside an official site, wildkamperen, is against the law across the Netherlands, and Amsterdam's parks are patrolled; this includes sleeping in a campervan on the street. That makes the handful of proper campsites the only legal option. Some of them close outside the main season, and in summer, especially around King's Day in late April and the long holidays, they fill up. Book ahead rather than arriving with a tent on your back, and confirm the season dates for the site you choose.
