Look for the HUTB number and the hotel license
Barcelona treats short-let flats and aparthotels very differently. A holiday flat must carry a tourist-use license, which in the city shows up as a registration number starting HUTB that should appear in any advert; no number is a warning sign. The city council has said it will not renew those flat licenses when they expire in November 2028. Aparthotels hold hotel-type licenses and are not affected. For a month-long stay it also helps that the Catalan tourist tax is charged for a maximum of seven nights per stay, so ask the property how it applies.
