How entry works

What Macau checks.

  • Before you go. No ETA. Nationals not on the exemption list can get a visa on arrival at the checkpoint (30 days), except nationals of Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, who must apply in advance through a Chinese embassy/consulate.
  • Your passport. At least 90 days beyond the intended stay.
  • Onward ticket. Onward or return ticket required, unless you can prove residence in mainland China or Hong Kong.
  • Money for the stay. MOP 5,000 (stay up to 7 days), MOP 10,000 (8-14 days), MOP 15,000 (15-21 days), MOP 20,000 (over 21 days).
  • Travel insurance. Not an entry requirement.
  • At the border. Non-residents can register for the automated passenger clearance system (e-channel).
  • Also. Visa on arrival (checkpoint Visa Room), 30 days: MOP 200 individual single entry / MOP 300 multiple; family passport MOP 400/600; under-12s MOP 100/150; groups of 10+ MOP 100/150 per person.
  • Also. Going on to mainland China needs a Chinese visa (double/multiple entry if you leave and re-enter the mainland), unless visa-free.

Keep your money

How to spot a copycat visa site.

  1. Check the address. Macau’s official link on this page goes to gov.mo. Look-alike sites use similar names and flags.
  2. Compare the fee. If the price is far above the government fee, you’re paying a private service. It should say so plainly.
  3. Ignore “fast-track” upsells. Nobody outside the government can speed up or promise a decision.
