Aparthotels are the legal way round the short-let squeeze
Paris limits private short-term letting of a main home, which is why so many holiday flats have vanished from the listings or sit in a legal grey area. Aparthotels and serviced residences are licensed commercial accommodation, so the cap does not touch them, and chains such as Citadines, Adagio and Residhome take stays of a single night. For a month, the thing to ask is the long-stay rate, which usually starts after about a week. Staying longer still, French law offers the bail mobilité, a furnished lease of one to ten months for people in Paris for work, study or training.
