Barcelona's mosques are shopfronts, not domes
Barcelona has no large purpose-built mosque. The city's Muslims pray in dozens of oratoris: converted ground-floor shops, garages and basements, many in the Raval and in Sants, Nou Barris and other working barrios. They are places of worship first, not sights. Non-Muslim visitors are usually welcome outside prayer times if they ask at the door; dress modestly with arms and legs covered, women with a headscarf, and take shoes off at the prayer-room entrance. Friday midday prayer is the busiest time of the week.
