How entry works

What Brazil checks.

  • Before you go. No ETA scheme. Visa-required nationals (incl. US, Canada, Australia since 10 Apr 2025) need a visa or e-visa before boarding; airlines check.
  • Your passport. Brazil itself requires a passport valid for the stay (US State Dept: valid on entry; Canada: valid for duration of stay). UK FCDO states 6 months from arrival. Safest: 6 months.
  • Onward ticket. Officials may ask for a return/onward ticket.
  • Money for the stay. Officials may ask for proof of sufficient funds for the stay.
  • Travel insurance. Not required for visitors; recommended.
  • Also. Visitor stays are 90 days, extendable at the Federal Police before expiry; overstays incur a daily fine (payable on departure or next visit). Make sure your passport is stamped.

How to spot a copycat visa site.

  1. Check the address. Brazil’s official link on this page goes to brazil.vfsevisa.com. Look-alike sites use similar names and flags.
  2. Compare the fee. If the price is far above the government fee, you’re paying a private service. It should say so plainly.
  3. Ignore “fast-track” upsells. Nobody outside the government can speed up or promise a decision.
