Worth knowing

The details for a French passport.

Listed as visa-exempt on the Mexican Consular Section in London's 2026 list of nationalities that need no visa for non-paid visits of up to 180 days (read 11 Oct 2026). The immigration officer stamps the number of days allowed (180 is the maximum, not automatic; often fewer) and the stay cannot be extended inside Mexico. The non-resident entry fee (DNR) is built into air and cruise fares; land arrivals pay it unless visiting for tourism for 7 days or less. Officers may ask for a return/onward ticket, accommodation, itinerary and proof of funds.

Your passport

How long it must be valid.

Mexico's own rule: the passport must be valid for the whole trip (Embassy of Mexico in the US, page updated 24 Jul 2026), and the US State Dept says valid at the time of entry. Airlines may apply a 6-month rule, and the Mexican Embassy in the UK recommends 180 days (the longest tourist stay). Ireland's DFA advises 6 months beyond your last day in Mexico. Travel with 6 months to be safe. Passport cards are accepted only at land and sea crossings, not for flights.
