The rest of the trip for a Russian passport, from the arrival form to customs and travelling with children: Mexico entry requirements.
The details for a Russian passport.
SAE nationality, confirmed: the Mexican Embassy in Italy (page updated 10 Feb 2026) and the Embassy in Ireland list Russian and Turkish citizens as eligible for the SAE (Sistema de Autorización Electrónica). An approved SAE lets you fly to Mexico without a visa for tourism, business or transit with no paid activity. It is valid only by air on a participating airline; entry by land or sea needs a consular visa. Single entry. The embassy pages say it is valid 180 days from issue; an earlier pass read 30 days on the INM form, so check the validity printed on your approval. The officer grants up to 180 days on arrival, and the stay cannot be extended inside Mexico. Cost: the embassy pages don't state one. Earlier passes recorded the SAE as free, but Mexico's electronic visas are paid online since the 2025 visa guidelines, and the Ley Federal de Derechos sets MXN 197.65 for a visa requested electronically (art. 22-III-g), so check the price on the form. Apply at visaelectronica.sre.gob.mx. If the SAE is refused, get a consular visa (USD 56 at the Washington consulate; MXN 990.79 in the Ley Federal de Derechos) unless you qualify for the exemption that follows. Visa NOT needed if you hold a valid visa from the US, Canada, UK, Japan or a Schengen country, or permanent residence in those or in Chile, Colombia or Peru (also APEC Business Travel Card for business by air). Only visas in the passport or permanent-resident cards count (US EAD, I-797A, advance parole, I-20, DS-2019 are not accepted).
How long it must be valid.
Mexico's own rule: the passport must be valid for the whole trip (Embassy of Mexico in the US, page updated 24 Jul 2026), and the US State Dept says valid at the time of entry. Airlines may apply a 6-month rule, and the Mexican Embassy in the UK recommends 180 days (the longest tourist stay). Ireland's DFA advises 6 months beyond your last day in Mexico. Travel with 6 months to be safe. Passport cards are accepted only at land and sea crossings, not for flights.
