New York state law bars renting a whole apartment in most residential buildings for fewer than 30 days, and since 2023 the city has required short-term hosts to register and to be present during stays under 30 days. That is why so many furnished apartments here come with a 30-night minimum. Operators licensed as hotels can take shorter stays; apartment-style operators generally cannot. For a month-long visit, ask ahead which kind of place it is, since that decides both the minimum and what happens if your dates change.
