What Mauritius checks.
- Before you go. No pre-travel authorization for visa-exempt visitors; entry permission is stamped on arrival. Ebola restriction (FCDO update 4 Sep 2026): non-Mauritians who were in the Democratic Republic of Congo or South Sudan in the previous 21 days (State Dept also lists Uganda) are refused entry unless they hold a work, residence or occupation permit, business or student visa; permit holders and Mauritians face 21 days' quarantine.
- Your passport. Mauritian rule: passport valid beyond the intended period of stay (PIO); US State Dept: valid for the entire stay. Canada, Singapore and Ireland advise at least 6 months beyond departure, and airlines may enforce that, so 6 months is the safe standard.
- Onward ticket. Valid return ticket to country of origin or residence required (PIO); FCDO, State Dept and Ireland confirm proof of onward/return travel, and entry may be refused without it.
- Money for the stay. Adequate funds to meet the cost of the stay (PIO; no amount published). Timatic-based secondary sources cite at least USD 100 per day.
- Travel insurance. Not an entry requirement for visitors (FCDO advises cover). Required for Premium Visa applicants.
- Also. Stays can be extended at the Passport & Immigration Office, Sterling House, Port Louis, in person: free, with application form, passport and arrival-stamp copies, ticket, 3 months' bank statements and confirmed accommodation (or sponsor documents).
- Also. PIO visa durations: tourist stays up to 6 months per calendar year (case by case); business up to 120 days per calendar year with no more than 90 days per trip (no remuneration in Mauritius); social visa up to 45 days; transit within 24 hours; medical visa on arrival up to 6 months.

Recent and coming changes in Mauritius.
- 2026-06-06 — Ebola entry ban: foreign nationals who were in the DRC, Uganda or South Sudan within 21 days are denied entry (State Dept); FCDO's 4 Sep 2026 update lists DRC and South Sudan, with exceptions for permit/visa holders who must quarantine 21 days.
How to spot a copycat visa site.
- Check the address. Mauritius’s official link on this page goes to passport.govmu.org. Look-alike sites use similar names and flags.
- Compare the fee. If the price is far above the government fee, you’re paying a private service. It should say so plainly.
- Ignore “fast-track” upsells. Nobody outside the government can speed up or promise a decision.
