Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

Mauritian rule: passport valid beyond the intended period of stay (PIO); US State Dept: valid for the entire stay. Canada, Singapore and Ireland advise at least 6 months beyond departure, and airlines may enforce that, so 6 months is the safe standard. Safe standard: 6 months beyond the day you leave.

Arrival card

Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form. Before arrival; US State Dept says within 72 hours before arrival. Print it (with QR code) and show it on arrival; if not done, you fill in a paper disembarkation card at the airport. Includes a health declaration.

Official form

Border systems for every visitor

No pre-travel authorization for visa-exempt visitors; entry permission is stamped on arrival. Ebola restriction (FCDO update 4 Sep 2026): non-Mauritians who were in the Democratic Republic of Congo or South Sudan in the previous 21 days (State Dept also lists Uganda) are refused entry unless they hold a work, residence or occupation permit, business or student visa; permit holders and Mauritians face 21 days' quarantine.

Onward ticket

Valid return ticket to country of origin or residence required (PIO); FCDO, State Dept and Ireland confirm proof of onward/return travel, and entry may be refused without it.

Proof of funds

Adequate funds to meet the cost of the stay (PIO; no amount published). Timatic-based secondary sources cite at least USD 100 per day.

Travel insurance

Not an entry requirement for visitors (FCDO advises cover). Required for Premium Visa applicants.

Vaccinations

Yellow fever certificate required (age 1 and over) if arriving from a yellow-fever transmission-risk country, including after more than 12 hours' transit at an airport in one (State Dept). Travellers from malaria-endemic countries may be asked for a blood sample (FCDO).

Cash to declare at customs

Declare cash over MUR 500,000 (about USD 11,000) or the foreign-currency equivalent on entry and exit; also bearer negotiable instruments, precious metals/stones and high-value goods. Declaration can be made online via the Mauritius Revenue Authority.

Taxes, levies and fees

Visas and visa extensions are free of charge (PIO). No visitor levy found in the sources checked.

Medicines, vapes and banned items

E-cigarettes/vapes, water pipes, cigarette rolling papers, cannabis, pepper spray, spear-fishing equipment, plants and fruits, and sex toys are prohibited. Adderall is banned even with a prescription. Bring prescriptions; max 3 months' supply of prescription medicine and 1 month of controlled drugs; tranquillisers, hypnotics, narcotics and strong painkillers need prior authorisation. Drone use is regulated by the Department of Civil Aviation.

Travelling with children

No specific entry rule published. For a minor's stay extension, PIO requires a parent/guardian consent letter, the child's birth certificate and copies of the parents' passports.

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
