Do you need a visa for Jordan?

The short answerYes, for some passports: Jordan has an online option, the Jordan e-visa. Of the 33 passports NUM checks, 3 need no visa for a short visit, 27 get a visa on arrival and 3 need a visa before travelling.

The official link goes to eservices.moi.gov.jo. NUM isn’t a government agency or a visa service. Rules change, so confirm on the official site before you pay or travel.

How entry works

What Jordan checks.

  • Before you go. No Jordan-wide e-authorisation. Nationalities not on the Ministry of Interior's restricted list can get a single-entry visa on arrival (JOD 40) at Queen Alia airport, the Sheikh Hussein (North) crossing or the Wadi Araba (Aqaba) crossing, or apply for an e-visa through the MOI portal, or buy a Jordan Pass (visa fee included) before arrival. No visa on arrival at the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge. Restricted nationalities ('Countries that need prior approval': 53 countries on the MOI page, last update 09/11/2025, among our passports the Philippines and Nigeria) must get a visa in advance through MOI or an embassy. Some nationalities are visa-exempt (UAE per UAE MOFA; Turkey per Turkish MFA).
  • Your passport. At least 6 months from arrival (FCDO, updated 7 Oct 2026; State Dept, updated 14 May 2026).
  • Onward ticket. Jordan's government portal (Jordan Gate) lists a flight itinerary among the documents for a tourist visa, along with a passport photo and hotel reservation details.
  • Travel insurance. Not listed as an entry requirement by FCDO or State Dept.
  • At the border. Visitors staying over 14 days must report to a police station for registration, with biometrics (FCDO). State Dept: non-exempt visa holders staying over 2 weeks must register before the first 2 weeks end; failing to register can mean a JOD 200 fine, payable before departure (Smartraveller). Jordan Pass holders do not need to register even if staying over 14 days (Smartraveller). Irish DFA: from 1 Oct 2025 stays over 14 days require reporting to the residency office of the nearest police station (JOD 200 fine on departure); its list of exemptions appears to include tourists, which conflicts with FCDO and State Dept, so treat registration as required.
  • Also. King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge: no visa on arrival; you need a visa beforehand (FCDO, State Dept). A visa holder who leaves for the West Bank via this bridge can come back through the same crossing without a new visa while the visa is still valid (State Dept). British passport holders need no prebooking to leave via the bridge; other passport holders may need to prebook to enter Israel or the West Bank there (FCDO). Crossings open most days from 8 or 8:30am and can close without notice (FCDO).
  • Also. Visas on arrival are issued at Queen Alia International Airport, the Sheikh Hussein (North) crossing and the Wadi Araba crossing near Aqaba (State Dept, Jordan Pass FAQ). Jordan Pass FAQ: non-restricted nationals arriving at Aqaba airport do not need a visa (Aqaba Special Economic Zone); restricted nationals need a visa in advance.

What changed

Recent and coming changes in Jordan.

  • 2026-01 — Visa-on-arrival and e-visa stays were reported extended from 30 to 90 days with no fee change (VisasNews, Jan 2026, cited on Wikipedia). FCDO now says the JOD 40 visa 'is valid for 3 months' and State Dept lists a '3-month single-entry' visa. Smartraveller and the Jordan Pass FAQ still say 30 days or 1 month.
  • 2025-11-09 — MOI restricted-nationalities page shows 'Last update: 09/11/2025' (read as 9 Nov 2025): 53 countries need prior approval. Vietnam, Albania, Moldova and Colombia are not on it, although the Jordanian Embassy London and Jordan Pass lists still name them.
  • 2025-10-01 — New rule (per Irish DFA): stays over 14 days require reporting to the residency office of the nearest police station; failure means a JOD 200 fine on departure. The Turkish MFA also refers to a September 2025 amendment of Jordan's residence and foreigners law.
Keep your money

How to spot a copycat visa site.

  1. Check the address. Jordan’s official link on this page goes to eservices.moi.gov.jo. Look-alike sites use similar names and flags.
  2. Compare the fee. If the price is far above the government fee, you’re paying a private service. It should say so plainly.
  3. Ignore “fast-track” upsells. Nobody outside the government can speed up or promise a decision.
