Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

At least 6 months from arrival (FCDO, updated 7 Oct 2026; State Dept, updated 14 May 2026). Safe standard: 6 months left on the day you arrive.

Arrival card

No arrival card for most visitors.

Border systems for every visitor

No Jordan-wide e-authorisation. Nationalities not on the Ministry of Interior's restricted list can get a single-entry visa on arrival (JOD 40) at Queen Alia airport, the Sheikh Hussein (North) crossing or the Wadi Araba (Aqaba) crossing, or apply for an e-visa through the MOI portal, or buy a Jordan Pass (visa fee included) before arrival. No visa on arrival at the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge. Restricted nationalities ('Countries that need prior approval': 53 countries on the MOI page, last update 09/11/2025, among our passports the Philippines and Nigeria) must get a visa in advance through MOI or an embassy. Some nationalities are visa-exempt (UAE per UAE MOFA; Turkey per Turkish MFA).

Onward ticket

Jordan's government portal (Jordan Gate) lists a flight itinerary among the documents for a tourist visa, along with a passport photo and hotel reservation details.

Travel insurance

Not listed as an entry requirement by FCDO or State Dept.

Vaccinations

State Dept: no vaccinations required. FCDO: an HIV test (JOD 20) is required for stays over 30 days.

Cash to declare at customs

Declare amounts over JOD 10,000 (or equivalent, all forms of currency) on arrival (State Dept, Smartraveller). No exit restriction listed by State Dept.

Taxes, levies and fees

Visa on arrival: JOD 40 single entry (FCDO, State Dept, Jordan Pass FAQ). State Dept also lists double entry JOD 60, 6-month multiple JOD 120 and 1-year multiple JOD 200. Jordan Pass costs JOD 70-80 including the visa fee (FCDO); it must be bought before arrival to get the visa waiver. Departure tax: JOD 10 in cash at all land border crossings (FCDO; State Dept quotes JOD 10 exit fee at King Hussein Bridge). Overstay: JOD 3 per day (State Dept). Jordanian Embassy London: exit service fee JOD 10 per passenger and JOD 5 per vehicle at land and sea border points; embassy-issued visas are free (gratis) for Jordan Pass holders and for citizens of listed countries including the GCC states, Japan, Hong Kong, South Africa, Turkey and Malaysia.

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Drones, satellite phones and radios are illegal to bring in without authorisation (State Dept). FCDO: apply for approval to bring a drone at least 10 working days before travel. Medicines: carry them in original packaging with the prescription, and check the Jordan Food and Drug Administration list of prohibited drugs (State Dept, Smartraveller).

Travelling with children

State Dept: when one parent travels with a child, a notarised consent letter from the absent parent is recommended; otherwise show proof of sole custody. Jordanian law lets adult males place travel holds on minor children. FCDO: children with a Jordanian passport travelling without their father need a signed letter of permission from him to leave. Smartraveller: a husband can prevent his wife and children from leaving, even if they are Australian citizens.

Changes

What changed, and what is coming

  • 2026-01 · In force Visa-on-arrival and e-visa stays were reported extended from 30 to 90 days with no fee change (VisasNews, Jan 2026, cited on Wikipedia). FCDO now says the JOD 40 visa 'is valid for 3 months' and State Dept lists a '3-month single-entry' visa. Smartraveller and the Jordan Pass FAQ still say 30 days or 1 month. Source
  • 2025-11-09 · In force MOI restricted-nationalities page shows 'Last update: 09/11/2025' (read as 9 Nov 2025): 53 countries need prior approval. Vietnam, Albania, Moldova and Colombia are not on it, although the Jordanian Embassy London and Jordan Pass lists still name them. Source
  • 2025-10-01 · In force New rule (per Irish DFA): stays over 14 days require reporting to the residency office of the nearest police station; failure means a JOD 200 fine on departure. The Turkish MFA also refers to a September 2025 amendment of Jordan's residence and foreigners law. Source

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
