In Rome, tennis happens in clubs, not parks

Rome has very few free public tennis courts. What it has is dozens of circoli — private sports clubs, often by the Tiber or in the northern districts — and many will rent a court by the hour to non-members when members are not using it, usually booked by phone or through an app such as Playtomic. Evenings and weekend mornings go first. Clay is the common surface, so bring shoes that suit it, and ask about racquet hire when you book rather than assuming. In May the Foro Italico hosts the Internazionali d'Italia, and the city's tennis appetite rises accordingly.
