The rooftop season is short and the drinks are timed
Tokyo's classic beer gardens are the rooftops of department stores and hotels, and most run only through the warm months, roughly from late spring to the end of September, closing early or cancelling in heavy rain. Many sell nomihōdai, all-you-can-drink, as a set price for a fixed time slot, often two hours, sometimes with a barbecue or buffet included. Beer halls such as the Ginza Lion and Kirin City branches on this list are indoor and pour all year. The legal drinking age in Japan is 20.
