Tokyo's dive shops are in offices; the diving is somewhere else
Almost every Tokyo dive shop works the same way: a shop or classroom in the city, and weekend trips by van or train to the Izu Peninsula, where sites such as Izu Oceanic Park on the east coast and Osezaki on the west coast sit within a few hours' drive. The water is warmest from about August to October and drops to the mid-teens Celsius in late winter, when drysuits are the norm. The farther option is the Ogasawara Islands, legally part of Tokyo but reached only by a ferry of roughly 24 hours each way.
