There is no single halal certificate in Japan
Japan has no government halal standard. Certification comes from several private and religious bodies, each with its own rules, and some restaurants are certified while others are Muslim-run and self-declared. Neither label is shown on this map, so ask to see the certificate, or ask who owns the kitchen, if it matters to you. Outside dedicated places, the usual hidden issues are pork in ramen broths and gyoza, and alcohol in mirin and some soy sauces, which appear in a large share of Japanese cooking.
