Where the concierge points people first
- T'sたんたん — A ramen chain with no animal products in the kitchen, best known for its tantanmen, thick with sesame and chilli oil. The one bowl of ramen in Tokyo you can order without a single question. (35.7298, 139.7109)
- AIN SOPH.GINZA — A Ginza sit-down restaurant from the Ain Soph group, whose kitchens are fully vegan. Go for dessert as much as dinner. (35.6704, 139.7678)
- Cosme Kitchen Adaptation — Seasonal plant-based set plates from the team behind Cosme Kitchen. Suits an unhurried lunch. (35.6671, 139.7092)
- 8ablish — A vegan café in the Aoyama area that has been going longer than most of the city's newer plant-based places, with cakes people cross town for. It also appears as EIGHTABLISH(エイタブリッシュ), so it is on the map twice. (35.6624, 139.7438)
- 2foods — Plant-based bowls, burgers and sweets from a Japanese chain that pitches itself at meat-eaters as much as vegans. Handy when you are mid-shopping and want something certain. (35.6803, 139.7692)

Reading a Japanese label for egg and milk
When a dedicated vegan place is not nearby, the packaging helps more than the menu. Japanese food labelling law makes a short list of allergens mandatory on packaged food, and egg (卵) and milk (乳) are both on it, so a konbini sandwich or snack will show them in the allergen table. Meat and fish sit only on the recommended list, not the mandatory one, which means a label with no egg or milk can still contain bonito, pork extract or gelatin. Treat the table as a quick way to rule things out, never as a way to rule them in.
