How entry works

What Israel checks.

  • Before you go. ETA-IL mandatory since 1 Jan 2025 for all visa-exempt nationals (ILS 25, valid 2 years or until passport expiry, visits up to 90 days). Everyone else needs a visa; Israeli citizens must use their Israeli passport. Israeli embassies: apply only on the official gov.il portal; answer within 72 hours. Irish DFA: ETA-IL is needed by visitors of all ages and allows multiple entries.
  • Your passport. FCDO: passport expiry date at least 90 days after the date you arrive. US State Dept: valid for 90 days at the time of entry. (Older guidance and some airlines use 6 months - check with your airline.) Netherlands: at least 3 months on arrival.
  • Onward ticket. Not stated as a formal requirement by FCDO or US State Dept; border officers can question visitors at length and refuse entry.
  • Travel insurance. Not listed as an entry requirement by FCDO or US State Dept.
  • Also. Security: US State Dept Level 3 'Reconsider travel' for Israel and the West Bank, Level 4 'Do not travel' for Gaza (26 Aug 2026). Australia advises 'Do not travel to Israel overall'.
  • Also. Entering Palestinian Authority-controlled areas without advance authorisation can lead to deportation and a ban of up to 10 years. Erez crossing closed; Rafah closes often and for long periods.

Keep your money

How to spot a copycat visa site.

  1. Check the address. Israel’s official link on this page goes to israel-entry.piba.gov.il. Look-alike sites use similar names and flags.
  2. Compare the fee. If the price is far above the government fee, you’re paying a private service. It should say so plainly.
  3. Ignore “fast-track” upsells. Nobody outside the government can speed up or promise a decision.
