How entry works

What Georgia checks.

  • Before you go. No pre-travel authorisation for visa-free visitors, but compulsory health and accident insurance applies to all foreign visitors since 1 Jan 2026 (Resolution No. 602 of 26 Dec 2025).
  • Your passport. Valid for the whole stay (FCDO; US State Dept: valid at entry). e-Visa applicants: valid 3 months beyond the visa, issued within the last 10 years, 2 blank pages. Per a secondary source, since April 2025 citizens of 17 countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen) need a passport valid at least 1 year on arrival. Children whose passport photo no longer resembles them have been refused entry.
  • Onward ticket. Required for e-Visa applicants (round-trip reservation). Not listed for visa-free visitors.
  • Money for the stay. Required for e-Visa applicants (bank statement); e-Visa holders must be able to show it at the border.
  • Travel insurance. Mandatory for all foreign visitors since 1 Jan 2026 (Resolution No. 602 of 26 Dec 2025): health and accident insurance covering all healthcare needs, including medical treatment and repatriation, minimum GEL 30,000 (about USD 11,000), valid for the entire stay including arrival and departure days; Georgian or foreign insurer, with the mandatory details listed in Georgia's visa information guide. Airlines at check-in or immigration officers may ask for proof; without it you may have difficulty entering.
  • Also. Entering Georgia from Russia via Abkhazia or South Ossetia is illegal (heavy fines or jail); FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Georgia.
  • Also. Work permit required from 1 Mar 2026 for foreigners working in Georgia, including remote work or running a business (FCDO; US State Dept says most foreign nationals working in Georgia need one). Valid 1 year for a specific job with a specific employer. Apply to the State Employment Support Agency (Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs), then apply for the matching visa and/or work residence permit. Staying over 183 days with any paid work makes you liable for Georgian income tax; notify the Revenue Service or face a fine.

Keep your money

How to spot a copycat visa site.

  1. Check the address. Georgia’s official link on this page goes to evisa.gov.ge. Look-alike sites use similar names and flags.
  2. Compare the fee. If the price is far above the government fee, you’re paying a private service. It should say so plainly.
  3. Ignore “fast-track” upsells. Nobody outside the government can speed up or promise a decision.
