Bubble tea arrived in Germany in a rush around 2012, with shops opening on every high street, and collapsed almost as fast after a food-safety scare about the tapioca pearls that was later widely questioned. The brands that returned in the following decade are mostly Taiwanese chains and small independents, which is why Berlin now has fewer, better shops rather than one on every corner. Sweetness and ice levels can usually be set when you order, so ask for less sugar if the default is too much.
