A free walking tour is not free
Berlin's "free" walking tours are tip-based, and the guide is often paying the company a fee for each person who joins. The tip at the end is effectively the ticket price, so budget for it rather than treating it as optional. For groups over ten, a private guide at a fixed rate is often simpler and quieter. Berlin does not license city guides, so it is fair to ask who is leading the tour and what their background is before you book.
