- Reichstagskuppel — The glass dome on the parliament building, with a spiral ramp and a view over Tiergarten and the government quarter. Free, but you register online in advance and bring ID. (52.5186, 13.3761)
- Panoramapunkt — The viewing deck at the top of the Kollhoff tower on Potsdamer Platz, reached by a very fast lift. An easy late-afternoon stop with no hill to climb. (52.5090, 13.3751)
- Berlin Hi-Flyer — A tethered helium balloon near Checkpoint Charlie that rises well above the rooftops. It only flies in calm weather, so check the day's status before you go. (52.5079, 13.3861)
- Dachterrasse Humboldt Forum — The roof terrace of the rebuilt palace, looking straight at the cathedral and the TV tower. Central, and best on a clear evening. (52.5173, 13.4005)
- Kreuzberg — The hill in Viktoriapark that gave the district its name, with Schinkel's iron monument at the top. A short but real climb, and the city's classic free sunset spot. (52.4877, 13.3815)
- Inselspitze - Kap Stralau — The tip of the Stralau peninsula, where the Spree widens out. Water rather than skyline, and very few people. (52.4888, 13.4827)

The Reichstag dome is free, but only with a booking
The Reichstag dome costs nothing, but walk-ups rarely get in. Registration is done online on the Bundestag website, slots fill days ahead in summer, and everyone needs photo ID at the security check. The dome also closes for a few days at a time for cleaning, so check before you plan an evening round it. If you missed the booking, the Panoramapunkt and the Humboldt Forum roof are the easiest same-day alternatives in the centre.
