Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

At least 6 months' validity from the date of arrival (FCDO, US State Dept; e-visa portal: 180 days). Canada words it as 6 months beyond your expected departure, so allow 6 months beyond departure to be safe. Safe standard: 6 months beyond the day you leave.

Border systems for every visitor

No authorization applies to all visitors. Nationals of 34 countries (EU states except Germany, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, Switzerland, UK, Australia, New Zealand) are exempt from the tourist visa for up to 30 days under a temporary measure for 2026 (FCDO: until 31 December 2026). Others are visa-exempt under bilateral agreements, or need an e-visa (eligible list on immigration.gov.mn) or an embassy visa.

Travel insurance

Not required for entry. Strongly recommended, including medical evacuation, air ambulance and repatriation, because medical services are limited outside Ulaanbaatar.

Vaccinations

No vaccinations required. No yellow fever risk and no yellow fever certificate required.

Cash to declare at customs

Up to MNT 15,000,000 in Mongolian tugrik may be brought in or taken out. Declare cash or travellers' cheques worth USD 10,000 or more on arrival, or it may be seized on departure.

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Antiques and items that look antique need proper certification to be exported; smuggling of antiquities and wildlife is policed. Vehicles entering by land need prior notice to the tax authorities and border troops, and customs tax is due if the vehicle does not leave with you.

Travelling with children

FCDO: adults travelling with children who are not their own should carry a notarised letter from the parents or legal guardian. US State Dept says Mongolia does not require parental consent for minors to enter or exit, so the letter is a precaution.

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
