Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

At least 6 months remaining on the date of entry for visa-exempt and landing-visa entry (US and Japanese passports: valid for the intended stay). Emergency/temporary passports are not accepted for visa-exempt entry. Safe standard: 6 months left on the day you arrive.

Arrival card

Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), online. Online within 3 days before arrival (FCDO, Smartraveller); BOCA's page still says within 7 days. If not filed, a QR code on arrival may be used. Resident-visa/ARC/APRC holders may be exempt. Fee: Free.

Official form · free on the official site

Border systems for every visitor

None for visa-exempt nationals beyond the online arrival card.

Onward ticket

Confirmed return ticket, or onward ticket plus visa for the next destination, with a confirmed departure seat.

Proof of funds

Not generally checked for visa-exempt Western nationals, but required for Thai, Philippine and Bruneian visa-exempt entrants and may be requested by customs/immigration.

Travel insurance

Not required for tourists. Digital nomad visitor visa requires full health and hospitalisation insurance for the stay.

Vaccinations

None required (US State Dept); no yellow fever risk and no certificate required (Canada). Taiwan CDC recommends hepatitis A vaccination.

Cash to declare at customs

Declare over NT$100,000 in cash or over USD 10,000 equivalent in foreign currency (a separate limit applies to Chinese yuan). Undeclared cash may be seized.

Taxes, levies and fees

No separate tourist or departure tax for travellers (airport service charge is built into air tickets) - not re-confirmed this session.

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Some prescription medicines legal elsewhere are controlled in Taiwan and cannot be brought in without prior permission; carry prescriptions in original packaging. Meat and pork products are banned (heavy fines, African swine fever checks).

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
