Getting there
TRA local trains from Taipei Main Station take about 45 min to Keelung Station. Intercity buses, such as route 1813 from Taipei Main Station, take about 40 min to 1 h depending on traffic. From Taoyuan Airport, go via Taipei Main Station (Airport MRT, then TRA). The overnight Taima Star ferry leaves Keelung for Matsu (Nangan and Dongyin), about 8 to 10 h.
Getting around
The harbor, Miaokou and Keelung Tower are walkable from Keelung Station. City buses reach Zhengbin (e.g. bus 101) and Heping Island; TRA Shen'ao Line trains from Ruifang stop at Haikeguan and Badouzi.
When to go
Keelung averages over 3,700 mm of rain a year and is wettest from about September to November and through winter, when the northeast monsoon sets in; summer is drier but in typhoon season (roughly July to October). The Ghost Festival fills the seventh lunar month, usually August into September.
