Kenting at a glance
Kenting is Taiwan's tropical southern tip and its oldest national park: coral coast, beaches, forest and the lighthouse at Eluanbi. The walled town of Hengchun, a short drive north, is the local centre. Most people come for the beaches and the sea, which makes summer and holidays crowded.

Getting there
Take the HSR from Taipei to Zuoying (about 1 h 35 min to 2 h), then the Kenting Express bus 9189 from HSR Zuoying Station to Kenting, about 2 h 20 min, via Fangliao, Checheng, the aquarium, Hengchun Transfer Station and Nanwan. Hengchun Airport has had no scheduled flights since 2019; the nearest airport with scheduled flights is Kaohsiung International.
Getting around
Kenting Street Shuttle buses link the main stops: 101 runs Xiaowan–aquarium, 102 Hengchun–Xiaowan via Maobitou, and 103 Hengchun–Jialeshui. There are YouBike stations in the park. Most visitors rent a scooter or car; you need a driving licence valid in Taiwan for the vehicle you rent.
When to go
It is warm all year, from about 21 °C in January to 29 °C in July. Summer and holidays are the busiest times, and typhoons are possible from about July to October. October brings the buzzard migration, and the Qianggu is held on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month (August or September).
Local tip
Coming on the 9189 bus, get off at Hengchun Transfer Station to change to the Kenting Street Shuttle: route 102 for Maobitou and Xiaowan, route 103 for Jialeshui.
