The rules everyone meets at the border
Passport
Valid at least 6 months beyond the intended stay (Fiji Immigration). FCDO says 6 months after arrival and US State Dept 6 months after departure; use 6 months past your planned departure. Safe standard: 6 months beyond the day you leave.
Arrival card
Fiji Passenger Arrival Card. Paper card handed out by the airline or ship before arrival; complete both sides and give it to the immigration officer with your passport and supporting documents (ticket, visa approval). No digital version found on official pages. Fee: Free.
Border systems for every visitor
None for visa-exempt nationals: a visitor permit is issued on arrival. Non-exempt nationals need a visitor visa approved before travel (online through IMMI HUB).
Onward ticket
Required: a confirmed return or onward ticket; one-way tickets are not accepted. If travelling on to a country that requires a visa, carry that visa too.
Proof of funds
You must have enough money for the whole stay and may be asked to show it; the Fiji MFA lists a copy of your latest bank statement among the documents for visa-exempt visitors.
Travel insurance
Not listed as an entry requirement by Fiji Immigration, FCDO or US State Dept.
Vaccinations
Yellow fever certificate required if arriving from a country with yellow fever transmission risk (FCDO). Otherwise none required (US State Dept).
Cash to declare at customs
Declare cash or bearer negotiable instruments of FJD 10,000 or more (or equivalent) on the Border Currency Reporting form, on arrival and departure; undeclared cash can lead to prosecution, a fine or prison. Duty-free (18+): 200 cigarettes or 200 g cigars/tobacco; 2.25 L spirits or 4.5 L wine or 4.5 L beer; other goods up to FJD 1,000.
Taxes, levies and fees
Unverified: departure tax is included in the airfare; hotel stays carry an Environment and Climate Adaptation Levy (ECAL) and VAT.
Medicines, vapes and banned items
Strict biosecurity: declare all food, plant and animal products, seeds, wood, soil and used sports shoes or camping gear. Luggage arriving at Nadi is X-rayed and most fresh food is confiscated. Spot fine FJD 400, or prosecution with fines up to FJD 20,000 and/or 6 months in prison (amnesty bins at the border). Drugs and drug utensils (bongs, hookahs) are prohibited; firearms need a Fiji Police import permit; flick knives, swordsticks and knuckle-dusters are banned; radio/telecom equipment needs a permit; tabua (whale's teeth) need a licence; pets are restricted.
Travelling with children
Minors travelling alone who need a visa must include parental consent letters with the application. Lone parents entering on a work or residence permit may need evidence of parental responsibility (contact the Fiji High Commission).
