Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

At least 1 month remaining on arrival, with a machine-readable zone (MRZ). Passports with manually extended validity are refused. US State Dept lists 6 months beyond arrival, and some airlines may apply stricter rules. Safe standard: 1 month left on the day you arrive.

Arrival card

IMUGA Traveller Declaration. Within 96 hours (4 days) before arrival; one per traveller, including children; present it on arrival Fee: Free (beware unofficial sites that charge).

Official form · free on the official site

Border systems for every visitor

None. Tourists need no pre-approval and get a free 30-day visa on arrival, except Israeli passport holders, who are refused entry from 15 Apr 2025.

Onward ticket

Required: a complete itinerary with a booked return or onward flight.

Proof of funds

Sufficient funds for the stay, or an Immigration-approved sponsorship.

Travel insurance

Not listed among tourist visa requirements on the official immigration page.

Vaccinations

Yellow fever certificate required if arriving from, or recently transited through, a yellow-fever risk country. Infants under 1 are exempt.

Cash to declare at customs

US State Dept lists an entry maximum of USD 10,000 and no exit maximum; check Maldives Customs declaration rules before carrying large amounts.

Taxes, levies and fees

Green Tax (since 1 Jan 2025): USD 12 per tourist per day of stay at resorts, integrated resorts, resort hotels, tourist vessels, and hotels/guesthouses on uninhabited islands or with more than 50 rooms; USD 6 at hotels/guesthouses with 50 or fewer rooms on inhabited islands; children under 2 exempt. Departing foreigners pay an Airport Development Fee AND a Departure Tax (since 1 Dec 2024), each USD 50 economy / USD 120 business / USD 240 first / USD 480 private jet; direct-transit passengers and diplomats are exempt from both, under-2s from the departure tax. On scheduled flights the airline collects them, so check whether your ticket already includes them.

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Importing anything 'contrary to Islam' is illegal: alcohol, pork and pork products, idols for worship and religious materials (e.g. Bibles beyond personal use); also pornography and weapons. E-cigarettes (vaping devices) and all vaping solutions may not be brought into the Maldives. Declare anything that may be prohibited or dutiable.

Travelling with children

Children need their own passport and their own Traveller Declaration.

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
