Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

At least 6 months' validity from the date of arrival (Canada: 6 months beyond expected departure - safest to follow). Safe standard: 6 months beyond the day you leave.

Arrival card

NIS Landing Card (arrival) and Exit Card (departure). Complete online before arrival and before departure (Taiwan BOCA advises within 3 days before each); print or save on your phone for checkpoints. Mandatory for all passengers entering or leaving Nigeria (from 1 May 2025).

Official form

Border systems for every visitor

All non-ECOWAS visitors (except holders of a valid Nigerian residence permit) need a visa obtained before travel, normally an e-Visa; visa on arrival is no longer available.

Onward ticket

Return or onward ticket is a standard e-Visa application document.

Proof of funds

Proof of funds is a standard e-Visa application document.

Travel insurance

No travel-insurance entry requirement found on FCDO / US State Dept / NIS pages.

Vaccinations

Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for all travellers (FCDO: except infants aged 8 months or under and adults 61+; US State Dept: travellers over 9 months must show yellow fever and polio certificates). Travellers from Ebola-affected countries must complete the Nigeria Health Declaration Form before travel; thermal screening on arrival.

Cash to declare at customs

Declare currency, negotiable instruments or precious metals/stones above USD 10,000 (or equivalent) on entry and exit; no upper limit if declared. Export of naira is limited by law.

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Import bans include beer, mineral water, soft drinks, sparkling wine, fruits, vegetables, cereals, eggs, textile fabrics (incl. mosquito netting), jewellery and precious metals. Exporting African art/antiques needs written authorisation from the Department of Antiquities.

Travelling with children

Carry the child's birth certificate (or copy) or other proof of relationship. Nigerian minors (incl. dual nationals) need notarised written permission from a parent/guardian to travel without them; authorities have stopped minors leaving without both parents.

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
