For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

Turkish law (Law 6458, since 1 Jan 2015): passport must be valid at least 60 days beyond the visa, e-Visa or visa-exempt stay, i.e. at least 150 days on arrival for a 90-day stay. The MFA advises 6 months from arrival. US State Dept quotes 6 months; airlines may apply stricter rules. Holders of diplomatic/official passports and of national ID cards admitted under the European Agreement are exempt from the 60-day rule. Safe standard: 6 months left on the day you arrive.

Arrival card

No arrival card for most visitors.

Border systems for every visitor

No Türkiye-wide pre-travel authorization. Only nationalities on the e-Visa list need evisa.gov.tr; the e-Visa is valid only for tourism or commerce. Use only www.evisa.gov.tr: Turkish missions warn copycat sites charge more than double.

Onward ticket

Not a stated requirement for visa-exempt visitors. Conditional e-Visa applicants should carry a return ticket and documents matching the trip's purpose.

Proof of funds

Not stated for visa-exempt visitors. Older Turkish embassy guidance for conditional e-Visa holders cites at least USD 50 per day of stay (2016 notice; may be outdated).

Travel insurance

Not required for visa-exempt or e-Visa tourist visits (not listed by FCDO, State Dept or Canada).

Vaccinations

No vaccinations required for most travellers. Canada: no yellow fever risk and no proof required; US State Dept says yellow fever proof may be asked of travellers arriving from endemic countries.

Cash to declare at customs

Turkish Customs: travellers aged 18+ leaving Türkiye with more than TRY 25,000 or EUR 10,000 (or equivalent) in cash must declare it on a Cash Declaration Form (free). Undeclared amounts: 10% administrative fine and all cash held. FCDO: no limit on foreign currency or lira brought in.

Taxes, levies and fees

No entry or departure fee for foreign visitors identified. e-Visa fees vary by nationality (see evisa.gov.tr). Hotel bills include an accommodation tax (rate not verified).

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Some common medicines are illegal or controlled even in transit: opioid painkillers, benzodiazepines, ADHD stimulants, and cold medicines with pseudoephedrine or codeine. Carry a prescription and doctor's letter and seek prior approval for these. Turkish Customs allows a reasonable personal quantity with a report or prescription. Exporting antiquities is restricted. Betel nut is prohibited.

Travelling with children

Carry each child's birth certificate or proof of relationship; a notarised consent letter from an absent parent is recommended (US State Dept). FCDO: a dual British-Turkish child aged 18 or under leaving Türkiye may need the Turkish parent's permission. A custody case in Turkish courts can lead to an exit ban.

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
