Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.
The rules everyone meets at the border
Passport
At least 6 months remaining from the date of arrival. Safe standard: 6 months left on the day you arrive.
Arrival card
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). Online within 3 days (72 hours) before arrival; required for all foreign nationals arriving by air, land or sea since 1 May 2025, visa-exempt or with a visa. It replaced the paper TM6. It can also be filed in the Immigration Bureau's THIM app (launched 25 Sep 2026); one filing is enough. Fee: Free.
Official form · free on the official site
Border systems for every visitor
No electronic travel authorization (ETA) is in force as of 10 Oct 2026. The Thai ETA announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2024 (planned to be free, for visa-exempt travellers) has not launched and no start date has been published. TDAC is the only pre-arrival filing for visa-exempt visitors. Ignore private 'Thailand ETA' sites that charge fees.
Onward ticket
Visa-exempt visitors must be able to show onward or return travel scheduled within 30 days of arrival (within 15 days for visa on arrival). FCDO notes British nationals have been refused entry without it, and airlines may check at boarding.
Proof of funds
Thai embassies state visa-exempt visitors may be asked for THB 20,000 per person or THB 40,000 per family (cash or equivalent), at the officer's discretion. Visa on arrival: THB 10,000 per person / 20,000 per family. FCDO still quotes the older 10,000/20,000 figure for visa-exempt entry, so carry the higher amount or card and bank evidence.
Travel insurance
Not required for visa-exempt entry or a tourist visa. Required for some long-stay routes: e.g. LTR (USD 50,000 health cover or alternatives) and Non-Immigrant O-A retirement visas. A proposed 450-baht visitor fee (not in force) would fund visitor accident/health cover.
Vaccinations
Yellow fever vaccination certificate required only if arriving from, or having transited an airport in, a country with yellow fever risk. FCDO also reports health screening, with mandatory quarantine or self-isolation of at least 21 days, for travellers from Ebola-affected regions (WHO PHEIC in 2026).
Cash to declare at customs
Foreign currency over USD 20,000 (or equivalent) must be declared to Customs on arrival and departure; failing to declare is a criminal offence. Thai baht may be taken out up to THB 500,000 to neighbouring countries and THB 50,000 to other countries without declaring; declare or exchange anything above. More than 200 cigarettes per person is illegal (fine 10x value, confiscation).
Taxes, levies and fees
No tourist entry fee is collected as of 10 Oct 2026. A 450-baht per-visitor fee (replacing the older 300-baht air / 150-baht land plan) was endorsed by the National Tourism Policy Committee on 14 Aug 2026 and went to public hearing; it still needs Cabinet approval and Royal Gazette publication, with air collection 180 days after publication (target Q1 2027). A separate 1,000-baht air departure tax (Thais included) is in draft. Already in force: international departure passenger service charge at the six AOT airports (BKK, DMK, CNX, CEI, HKT, HDY) rose from THB 730 to THB 1,120 for tickets issued from 20 Jun 2026 (built into airfares). Other fees: visa-exempt or TR extension THB 1,900; visa on arrival THB 2,000; overstay fine THB 500 per day up to THB 20,000.
Medicines, vapes and banned items
E-cigarettes, vapes, pods, e-liquids and heat-not-burn devices are illegal to bring in, possess or use, with no tourist exception (fines typically THB 5,000–30,000, confiscation, possible detention; the law allows up to 10 years' prison). Cannabis is medical-only since 2025: buying, possessing or using it requires a Thai-issued prescription (max 30-day supply), and taking it out of Thailand without an export permit is illegal. Medicines: up to 30 days' supply for personal use, in original labelled containers with a prescription or doctor's letter; Category 2 narcotic medicines need a Thai FDA carry-in permit applied for online at least 2 weeks ahead (permitfortraveler.fda.moph.go.th). Drones must be registered with the NBTC within 30 days of entry (fine up to THB 100,000 / 5 years). More than 200 cigarettes or more than 120 playing cards is illegal.
Travelling with children
No Thai-specific consent form or rule was found in the official sources checked. As a precaution, a child travelling with one parent or without parents should carry a birth certificate and a signed consent letter from any absent parent.

Your checklist, with the dates it is due
NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.
Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
