Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

At least 6 months from the date of entry (u.ae, FCDO, State Dept). Residence permit holders: 3 months (FCDO). The 12-page US emergency passport is not accepted. Canada: temporary and emergency passports cannot be used to enter (accepted for exit and transit); you must leave on the passport you entered with. Safe standard: 6 months left on the day you arrive.

Arrival card

No arrival card for most visitors.

Border systems for every visitor

No UAE-wide pre-travel authorization. Nationalities on the visa-on-arrival lists get a free visit visa at the airport; everyone else needs a pre-arranged entry permit (ICP/GDRFA via a sponsor, airline, hotel or relative). GCC residents also need a visa arranged before arrival. The UAE MOFA visa-exemption page (read 11 Oct 2026) lists each nationality as 'Visa Free' (no advance visa) or 'Visa Required'.

Onward ticket

Pre-arranged ICP visit visas require a return ticket for most visit categories. Not stated as a requirement for visa-on-arrival visitors by the travel-advice pages read.

Travel insurance

Not required for visa-on-arrival visitors per FCDO and State Dept.

Vaccinations

None required when arriving from the US/UK. Yellow fever certificate required if arriving from a yellow-fever-risk country (age 9 months+).

Cash to declare at customs

Declare cash, financial instruments, precious metals or valuable stones worth more than AED 60,000 on entry and exit (via the UAE customs declaration website/app). Amounts carried by minors are added to accompanying adults' totals.

Taxes, levies and fees

Non-GCC nationals leaving the UAE by land pay an AED 35 departure fee. Hotel stays carry emirate-level tourism fees (rates not verified).

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Controlled medicines (narcotic, psychotropic, controlled or semi-controlled) need prior approval before travel; apply online (FCDO: Ministry of Health, about 5 working days; State Dept: Emirates Drug Establishment portal). Visitors may bring up to 3 months' supply (1 month for medicines on the approval list), with a prescription issued within 3 months and a medical report within 1 year. CBD products are illegal, even residue. Pork products and pornography are illegal. Weapons and ammunition (even one bullet) need prior approval.

Travelling with children

Carry each child's birth certificate or proof of relationship. Parents can impose travel bans on children; a child in a custody dispute may be prevented from leaving.

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
