Verified means NUM read it on a government page on 10–11 Oct 2026. Likely means a reputable source says it and one official page agreed. Not checked yet means NUM could not confirm it: use the official page. Fees are as published on that date and can change.

For every visitor

The rules everyone meets at the border

Passport

At least 6 months. Omani MFA (14-day exemption): passport valid for no less than six months. FCDO (updated 7 Oct 2026): expiry at least 6 months after arrival; entry refused without a valid travel document. State Dept: 6 months. Safe standard: 6 months left on the day you arrive.

Arrival card

No arrival card for most visitors.

Border systems for every visitor

No Oman-wide e-authorisation. Nationals of over 100 countries are exempt for up to 14 days: Group 1 unconditionally; Group 2 only if they hold a valid visa or residence permit for the US, Canada, Australia, UK, a Schengen country or Japan, or are GCC residents. Everyone else (and anyone staying over 14 days) needs a Royal Oman Police eVisa; tourists normally use the 'Tourist Visit Visa (Unsponsored)'. FCDO: a visit visa can also be bought on arrival at Omani airports, but applying online first avoids refusal. GCC citizens need no visa.

Onward ticket

Return or onward ticket required for the 14-day exemption (Omani MFA, FCDO) and generally (State Dept).

Proof of funds

Omani MFA: enough money to cover living costs during the stay (14-day exemption). State Dept: proof of adequate funds.

Travel insurance

Required. Health insurance is a condition of the 14-day exemption (Omani MFA) and FCDO says proof of travel health insurance may be checked at the border. Smartraveller: you must have valid health insurance to cover your stay.

Vaccinations

Yellow fever certificate required if arriving from a transmission-risk country (FCDO names Rwanda and Tanzania and refers to the risk-country list; Smartraveller and State Dept say the same in general terms).

Cash to declare at customs

Smartraveller: declare currency (all forms) and precious metals worth OMR 6,000 or more on arrival and departure. State Dept (page dated Jul 2023): amounts over USD 20,000 must be declared. Use the lower OMR 6,000 (about USD 15,600) threshold.

Taxes, levies and fees

The 14-day exemption is free. Longer stays need a paid ROP eVisa; the fee schedule is on the ROP site but renders only with JavaScript and was not read. Commonly cited fees (OMR 5 for 10 days, OMR 20 for 30 days, OMR 50 for 1-year multiple entry) are unverified. Overstay fines are up to OMR 10 a day, maximum OMR 500 (FCDO).

Medicines, vapes and banned items

Importing or using e-cigarettes and vapes is illegal. Flying drones or any remote-controlled flying device without a valid licence is illegal. Some UK prescription and over-the-counter medicines are illegal in Oman. Drug penalties are severe, even for residual amounts. Creating, importing or sharing pornography is illegal (FCDO). State Dept: Muslim travellers may not bring alcohol; non-Muslims may bring two bottles bought at duty-free; pornography and firearms are prohibited.

Travelling with children

Border authorities may stop children who are the subject of a custody dispute from leaving Oman (FCDO). Under the 14-day exemption, the spouse and children of an eligible national also benefit even if they hold another nationality (Omani MFA).

Your checklist, with the dates it is due

NUM builds it for your passport and your travel dates: the authorisation and when to apply, the arrival card and the day it opens, what to carry at the border, your own country's exit rules, and a calendar file for every deadline.

Every document here is issued by a government, and the official link is the only place to get it. Most arrival cards and many authorisations are free. NUM is not a visa service and cannot apply for anything. Rules change without notice: the official page always has the final word.
